Millet Ben Haim

Raising

Light

the

A survivor of the nova festival sharing her incredible story of escaping, overcoming fear and her process of recovering and fighting antisemitism since oct 7th in her inspiring testimony

  • Millet completed her B.A. in criminology, sociology and anthropology, and was on her way to start her master’s degree to become a therapist before the October 7th attack. As part of her academic degree, Millet studied the sociology history of the Palestinian society in order to better understand their narrative. Millet has a wide an extensive professional background, including education therapy on the one hand and DJing and producing events on the other. Millet believed and still does in the power of love and in spreading light as a way of life. She now dedicates her life to share her story, hoping to make the world a better place.

  • At 6:30 in the morning of Saturday, October 7th, the music stopped at the Nova music festival and was replaced by sirens warning of a rocket attack. The participants of the festival, who were expecting to watch the sunrise in a safe and loving environment, were instead greeted by a relentless barrage of rockets fired from the Gaza strip.

Despite the ensuing confusion, Millet was immediately urged to get her friends and herself out of danger and started preparing to leave the perimeter even before the first gunshots were heard. At the parking lot they met with people who attempted to leave and were forced to run back when they encountered the terrorists that infiltrated the nearby border.

From that point onwards, everybody - including Millet and her friends - were forced into a desperate struggle for survival. Running for hours while being chased and shot at through the nearby fields, Millet eventually found a hiding place for her and her friends. There they hid, waiting for help to arrive. During that time they tried to contact their loved ones for help or, if worse came to worst, to say their goodbyes. After more than six long hours, they were found by citizens from the nearby village and were finally brought to safety.

  • Ever since the October 7th attack, Millet was engaged in the effort of spreading her story in every possible outlet: from her social media pages, through local and international press, to various audiences around the globe, including the Bundestag in Berlin. However, Millet does not just share her story with the audience; believing that the only way to fight back the darkness is by raising the light, she is intent to leave her audience with a message of positivity and hope.

  • Millet’s talk consists of a testimony that is followed by a Q&A session. Besides her personal story of survival, Millet expands on what helped her cope during the October 7th attack and throughout her process of rehabilitation since that day. She also shares some of the lessons and insights she gained on the way, utilizing her experience to deliver the message that to fight back the darkness we must raise the light.
